The Brougham Street development was not only the largest build project undertaken by OCHT since its establishment in 2016, but also the single biggest community housing development in Christchurch since the 2010/11 Earthquakes.  At the time of construction it was also the largest community housing development in New Zealand with 90 homes on offer.

The development met the Trust’s goal of providing warm, dry, healthy homes, with units designed to the New Zealand Green Building Council’s Homestar 7 standard.  The construction considers safety and longevity of materials. The brick façade was chosen to fit with both residential and industrial buildings in the area.

This project was recently awarded the Christchurch Civic Trust Award 2021, for projects that enhance the heritage and environmental values of the city.  The award recognised the development made a material and beneficial change to the city environment, re-positioning community housing for New Zealand that is environmentally sustainable.
